June 2007:
DuBois, Pa., Murphy’s Mart

It’s a “two-fer” this month. From the 1973 G.C. Murphy Co. annual report, here are two views of the new Murphy’s Mart at the DuBois, Pa., mall. This store was the prototype for a new type of Murphy’s Marts that were smaller than the discount stores Murphy’s had opened from 1970 through 1972; the DuBois store was about 66,000 square feet versus the previous stores, which were 80,000 to 100,000 square feet. (Thanks to Clair McElhinny for loaning this report.)
